So excited that @kasamachocolate is bringing back the “Ocean Mysteries” bar!!!
It combines all my favourite things - highest quality bean to bar dark chocolate, wakame, kelp, and a sprinkling of phytoplankton salt to top it off. This bar is like fine wine. I was a bit skeptical what this might taste like at first but the Kasama team is so talented - the taste is just so perfect with the right mix of each subtle and special ingredient.
The extra bonus for me is to have my artwork design covering this exquisite bar.
I used real squid to make a Gyotaku print then exposed the print through a cyanotype process resulting in the wonderful blue.

I hope they make enough for all the orders!

These small figures are likened to the 33 temples

These small figures are likened to the 33 temples of the famous Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage spread throughout the Kansai area. We came upon one of them while hiking up Mount Hakodate. Prepared with graphite and washi, I now have a “takuhon” of this one. There was a number 25 left on the ledge - maybe this one is number 25. I haven’t found the history of why they were placed on Mount Hakodate.

“Bochi” visit day 2.
And on this day the next generation was also interested in seeing the great great grandparents memorials and creating her own artwork as connection. Her greatest talent is singing and she honoured her relatives with her voice.
I am happy to bring all these generations together! We have found each other along this journey of researching family across the world.

Hakodate is famous for squid. I even found a shop

Hakodate is famous for squid. I even found a shop that made cards and clothing using the ink from the squid. While out exploring, I met these friendly fisherpeople who despite our language challenges understood the word “Gyotaku” and happily donated their smaller squid to our creative projects!
